作者鄭伯彬原本從事日本戰時經濟研究，開羅會議宣言臺灣將於戰後歸還中國後，遂著手整理臺灣的歷史、地理、人口與產業資料。全書廣泛徵引日本文獻、福建省政府檔案及當時的美國研究成果，內容涵蓋臺灣簡史、地形氣候、族群人口、農林漁礦、糖業、工業與交通，並收錄地圖及大量統計表。
The author, Cheng Po-pin, had originally conducted research on Japan’s wartime economy. Following the Cairo Declaration, which stipulated that Taiwan would be restored to China after the war, he began compiling materials on the island’s history, geography, population, and industries. Drawing extensively on Japanese publications, records of the Fujian Provincial Government, and contemporary American research, the book covers Taiwan’s history, topography, climate, ethnic groups and population, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, mining, sugar industry, manufacturing, and transportation. It is illustrated with maps and numerous statistical tables.
