“TÂI-HÁK TIONG-IÔNG. JI-IM KÓE-SEH”, Gulangyu, 1907
書名為TÂI-HÁK TIONG-IÔNG. JI-IM KÓE-SEH，也就是《大學中庸：字音解釋》。Chūi-keng-tông是「萃經堂」，為當時廈門很有份量的一間出版社。內容以漢字刊印《大學》《中庸》的經典原文，同時搭配閩南語羅馬字註音與解說。這套羅馬字系統，也就是後來常說的白話字或是教會羅馬字，與十九世紀以來西方傳教士在閩南、廈門、台灣等地的傳教、教育與翻譯工作有很深的關係。
This copy which published in Gulangyu in 1907, may at first look like an ordinary small edition of the Four Books. But once you open it, you realize that it preserves a fascinating chapter in the history of modern language and print culture.
Its Romanized title is TÂI-HÁK TIONG-IÔNG. JI-IM KÓE-SEH, meaning The Great Learning and The Doctrine of the Mean: Explanation of Characters and Pronunciation. “Chūi-keng-tông” refers to Cui Jing Tang, an important publisher in Xiamen at the time.
