本書又名《中國四十年來大事記》，由梁啟超於光緒二十七年（1901）李鴻章去世後撰成。卷首附李鴻章肖像，內容以其一生為主線，記述太平天國、湘淮軍、洋務運動、北洋海軍、甲午戰爭及晚清外交等重大事件，書中另附北洋艦隊軍艦資料表。
Also known as “A Record of the Great Events in China” over the Past Forty Years, this work was written by Liang Qichao in 1901, shortly after Li Hongzhang’s death. It opens with a portrait of Li and traces his life through such major events as the Taiping Rebellion, the rise of the Xiang and Huai Armies, the Self-Strengthening Movement, the Beiyang Fleet, the First Sino-Japanese War, and late-Qing diplomacy. The book also includes a statistical table of the warships of the Beiyang Fleet.
李鴻章（1823–1901）是晚清重臣、淮軍創建者及洋務運動的重要推動者，曾主持北洋海軍建設，並代表清廷參與多項外交談判，是中國近代史上最具爭議與影響力的人物之一。
Li Hongzhang (1823–1901) was a leading statesman of the late Qing dynasty, the founder of the Huai Army, and a major advocate of the Self-Strengthening Movement. He oversaw the development of the Beiyang Fleet and represented the Qing government in numerous diplomatic negotiations, making him one of the most influential and controversial figures in modern Chinese history.
